Probe Control UnitThe Probe Control Unit provides network connectivity to an attached gamma radiation detection probe.  The PCU is an IP66 weather resistant device suited for outdoor mounting and monitoring in harsh industrial conditions.  The PCU (Probe Control Unit) collects data from an externally attached probe and analyzes the data for alarm messages. The data is then passed on to a monitoring software via Ethernet, 2.4GHz or 900MHz uplink radio if installed.  

The PCU is equipped with internal solid state relays to turn on the built in strobe light, sounder or other externally connected alarms. The PCU is also equipped with 3 status LEDs notifying users of the system status.

Probe Communication

PCU ConnetionsThe PCU supplies power and communicates with an externally connected probe through an external DB-9 compatible with RS-232 or RS-485 standards.  The PCU is able to read and interpret raw counts for each channel, status messages, etc. and then has the option to forward the information to a wired or wireless connected network.

Alarm and Relay Control

In a standalone mode, the PCU is used without external data connectivity, and serves the function of monitoring a probe and providing an alarming capability.  The PCU has ultra loud 104 dB(A) sounder and flashing beacon light to alert nearby users of dose alarms.  The external Digital I/O port expands alarm capabilities by providing relay control for system status, alarm and fault indications.

Long Range Wireless Connectivity

In addition to Ethernet connectivity, the PCU has the option to be equipped with a 2.4GHz or 900MHz long range wireless uplink radio.  This data can then be received by a base radio where it can uploaded to a server to process and analyze the probe data.

Software Compatibility

The PCU is versatile and can be integrated into a many different remote monitoring systems.  The data transmitted is formatted in a Siemens protocol, and is compatible with the RemoteDNA RAD Control software package in addition to Thermo ViewPoint and TeleTrak systems.
